Big Cat Scouting in a Somerset Forest
In the late Summer of 2021 I visited a forest in Somerset with my friend Adam and my dog Georgie, to look for signs of big cats! Georgie had twice had close encounters with big cats, once in a field in Somerset when he ran toward a leopard and puma that emerged from a hollow hedge and barked at them as they disappeared into a gully and once when we he started pulling on his lead after hearing a puma screaming at dusk, which then walked down a track towards us on the edge of a wood in South Devon! Realising that we could be in danger I quickly took him away from where we were standing and you can read about these encounters on my pages: North Petherton - 2012 and South Devon - 2020. Being a Yorkshire Terrier, Georgie wasn't afraid of anything and often amazed owners of big dogs by his confidence and boldness! Yorkshire Terriers were bred to kill rats but they are extremely intelligent, loyal and lovable little dogs and I miss him greatly, having had him as my dear companion for 13 years and we had great adventures together but he's now in heaven and I'll see him again one day! Animals were created eternal creatures by God and have souls and spirits just as we do! In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. Job 12:10
Adam used to enjoy wild-camping in this forest but since our day out there he seems to have lost his enthusiasm for sleeping out in forests where big cats live and who can blame him? Adam is now interested in big cat investigation himself but not at dusk, in the night or at dawn! We hope you enjoy looking at the photos of our big cat scouting expedition to this Somerset forest!
